Pirelli Motorsport UK Welsh Rally Championship

Pirelli Motorsport UK Welsh Rally Championship - Rallynuts Stages and final championship standings Going into the last round it was a must win situation for the NiBS sponsored team of Robi Wood/ Osian Davies if they wanted to have a chance of taking the overall championship class win. Starting once again from the showground in Builth Wells the crews headed out to stage 1 Myherin, Wood/ Davies had the start they wanted taking 5 seconds off Lennox/ Evans and 6 seconds off Crone/ James. Stage 2 saw the crews tackle the Sweetlamb/ Hafren complex and Mark Lennox had a big push to take a massive 13 seconds out of Crone and 16 seconds off Wood. Stage 3 was a short 4 mile loop through Hafren South, Crone responded with a fastest time through this stage going 2 seconds quicker than Wood and 4 seconds faster than Lennox. So, at the halfway service Lennox led the way by 9 seconds over Wood and Crone was in third, just one second behind Wood.

Disaster struck for Wood/ Davies in stage 4 as the crew lost 3rd gear completely and were also struggling with clutch problems, this persisted in stage 5 and the decision was made to retire from the rally midway through the stage to prevent any further damage. Crone had an excellent afternoon and managed to go 11 seconds faster on stage 5 and 6 seconds faster on stage 6 to secure a hard-fought class win. Crucially for Wood/ Davies, Crones win meant they were able to retain 2nd in Class in the final championship standings despite their non finish.

Final championship class placings:

1st: Crone/ James

2nd: Wood/ Davies

3rd: Lennox/ Samuel (Evans not registered)

A fantastic result for Robi and Osian, 2nd in class in their first season on gravel. Congratulations
