Environment

The prime objective of NiBS is to operate without any infringement of the environmental and associated legislation appertaining to the work carried out.

NiBS is primarily involved in battery servicing and installation. This work has limited waste generation except where redundant batteries are to be disposed of.

Normal service work will produce small amounts of waste (cleaning cloths and wipes) which can be contaminated. These will be returned for disposal via the NiBS workshop premises.

Replacement batteries will cause scrap battery material waste. This shall always be disposed of via a licensed carrier and disposal agent in compliance with COSHH and waste regulations, applicable to that design of battery, and accompanied by the required paperwork.

During service and / or testing work, fumes may be generated during the recharge process. This is of low concentration and is adequately dispersed through good ventilation.

To ensure conscious control of Hazard and Environmental aspects, NiBS operate in accordance with BS-EN 50272-2:2001 battery and ISO 9001:2000 quality standards.

Contracts which may deviate from the above normal service of work shall be prepared applying additional “Risk”, “Hazard” and “Environmental” assessments.

Regarding waste in NiBS workshop and offices, this is segregated and disposed of in accordance with local facilities, regulations and classifications.

NiBS has achieved the Level 2 Green Dragon Environmental Management Standard. There are 5 levels as a stepped process towards ISO 14001. This has assisted NiBS in developing its Environmental Management System with the aims of replace, reduce, re-use and re-cycle. As a consequence environmental awareness in all aspects of work is given full consideration and all team members are fully conversant.
